Project Objectives
Success measures:
Marietta is working to increase access to our research resources for museum visitors by creating a web-based catalog of scholarly materials, developing an online database, and making our physical collections more accessible. In the next year we hope to support 20 researchers with access to materials from the library.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the FOSS cataloging system, Marietta House Museum is tracking both quantitative metrics and qualitative feedback across Accessibility & Usage, Cataloging Efficiency, Cost Savings & Sustainability, and User Satisfaction. We’ve also developed several long term goals to continue developing this project once the catalog is online.
Improved Accessibility & Usage
- Increase research requests by 50% year-over-year.
- Increase library foot traffic by 50% year-over-year.
- Reduce time spent locating items on the shelf (e.g., prevs. post-implementation surveys).
Cataloging Efficiency
- Reduce hours spent on data entry week-over-week.
- 10% of records digitized with metadata per month.
- Reduce error rates in OpenRefine data audits month-over-month.
User Satisfaction
- Acheve 80% satisfaction in post-launch surveys from researchers
- New features added from survey feature requests
Long-Term Success Benchmarks
- 10 months: Catalog pilot completed, staff training held.
- 1 year: 50% collection online, 25% traffic increase.
- 3 years: Full collection discoverable, grants secured for digitization expansion.
